It’s very early in the Department of Justice plans for the breakup of Google, but this week, they launched their first big salvo. The request, filed late Wednesday, was for Google to sell off the Chrome browser, along with other recommendations. With around 66% of the worldwide market share for browsers across all platforms, some have said it may be worth $20 billion. The tough part here in valuation is that Google offers it for free, as do all of the competitors. This is still in the proposal phase, and doesn’t go to the next trial phase, the remedy phase, until April of next year. How this plays out could impact us all, and we will be watching.
