SpaceX is setting up another milestone for March next year that is needed for expanding our space travel. Two of their Starships will launch within a few weeks of each other, and then transfer propellent between one to the other. This refueling concept will then be used as a jumping point to launch a number of them in advance of the Artemis 3 mission. Creating a gas station in space enables moving large amounts of risk away from the initial launch vehicle due to weight and volume of volatile material to shove off to new locations. This is exciting, and gives a chance to develop a type of space taxi service that we’ll eventually need.
The in-flight propellant transfer is a crucial step in reaching the Moon and Mars.
