Just a short while after Apple adopted RCS messaging, the FBI is warning that the method of communication is not secure. Your messages are encrypted if you are going from Android to Android, or from iPhone to iPhone, but apparently going cross platform is not. Further concern is being raised that China is now actively seeking to hack US networks to find the data going back and forth. So far, the extent of the successful hacks appear to be with key targets in political or financial realms, but as hacking goes, it starts with the high value, and then trickles down to the rest of us later. The developers of RCS do say they are working on encryption, but it’s still a ways off.
