The wheels of progress are moving again. We moved through various TV formats over the years, just as music has. Where we went from record to cassettes to CDs, the video world had VHS leading to DVD, which led to Blu-Ray. In the past few years, the top players in Blu-Ray have dropped out, with the latest to exit being LG. This is part of a shift towards streaming, where we also don’t own anything. This is an unnerving journey for all of us who have purchased physical media over the years, only to be phased out. Our gaming consoles still have the players, but they lack some of the features that we might want if we’re going for a true theater like experience. Regrettably, however, the cruise ship is leaving port, with or without us.
Production of regular and 4K players is ending.
