Apple AirTags are a nice, inexpensive tool that I use for tracking my key backpacks, and even my cat. Arvada, Colorado police have decided that they wish to working to prevent autotheft through that same method. They are giving away free AirTags and Tile trackers to residents, and a sticker, with the hope that if a car is stolen, that the owner will share that AirTag tracker information, and allow it to be located quickly. This is far cheaper than some of the various other GPS tracking options from over the years, and while it may not eliminate thefts, it may help to bring some of the bad guys to justice.
AirTags are being given away free by a Colorado police department as part of an effort to decrease auto thefts in the city.
