This week, New York State managed to clear the last legal hurdle for a low-income enforcement on broadband pricing. These rates are $15 or $20 depending on the speeds of 25 or 200 megabit speeds, and apply to all broadband providers. This was at the end of a four year battle which saw a lot of pushback, with providers noting that these caps restrict the ability to improve and expand services. AT&T has already announced they would cancel home internet service in New York, noting that they only offer it through wireless, not wired service, so that was easy for them. Existing users are being told they have 45 days to turn in equipment.
