Chinese based DJI has been coming under fire for the last year for their drones. They did an interesting thing, however, which won’t win friends in the US. Where for 10 years they have blocked drones from restricted areas like airports, and military bases, they have now said that effective this week, they are removing that feature. Their DJI Fly app will give alerts based on FAA requirements, but users of the drones can quickly bypass those notices. It’s hard to say what DJI hopes to gain by this effort, but it’s not going to be goodwill with our country which just gave them a year to figure things out.
DJI has lifted its geofence that prevents users from flying over restricted areas like nuclear power plants, airports and wildfires.
