Meta aka Facebook, is dropping their fact checking after eight years. The program has come under fire from both sides of the political aisle for being too hard or soft on various issues. Likewise, in the latest announcement, it came under fire or praise by many news media pundits. They are moving towards the same model that X (formerly known as Twitter) uses called the Community Notes model. This change was attributed to an error rate of as much as 10-20% in the previous model. I’m on the free speech side of the debate, not so much left or right… believing that forums that tout themselves as public, should truly allow free discourse on all of the topics of interest of the day, right or wrong. When we allow people to make a decision, then we are all better for it.
