Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, the makers of ChatGPT, made more headlines this week in his predictions for this new year. Artificial General Intelligence, he predicts, will happen this year. This concept is a tall order from what has been seen thus far. It includes reasoning, strategizing, solve puzzles, and making judgments under uncertainty. It also includes learning, planning, and a host of other leaps that others have said it might be on the order of decades away. While he may be right, being closer to the teams that are working on it, there are many different definitions of this, and arguments that go in vastly different directions. It does bear noting that it will become better than we’ve seen, so our lives will be affected, and change in the coming years as AI becomes more robust and appearing smarter.
