Noise-cancelling headphones have been the rage for decades now. This week, a number of outlets started bringing hype around people who may be experiencing problems due to APD. APD, auditory processing disorder, is where people struggle to… not really hear, but rather, process the sounds and words around them. The description is “overwhelming noise”, a struggle to discern and separate all that we are hearing, from the important things. The small print is that this is still an ongoing discovery, and theory only, but it’s worth at least paying attention to what the idea is.

More young people are presenting to audiology teams in England with difficulty processing sound.
