Blue Origin, Jeff Bezo’s own space venture, took some news from SpaceX this week, but not in a good way. On Wednesday, everyone was told to work from home on Thursday. What followed was an announcement of a 10% staff reduction after their latest launch, the first of the New Glenn rocket, which was their first to reach mid-Earth orbit. About 1000 of their employees were let go, based upon Blue Origin not being “setup for the kind of success that we really wanted to have”, according to their CEO, Dave Limp. Their track record is 37 overall launches, with only about 20 reaching the very edge of space, the Karman line, and 1 into space. SpaceX is lightyears ahead with over 19 so far this year, with 134 last year alone.
