What do you use as a microphone when working remote? Still using the mic built into your laptop, or do you have a headset, a Yeti, or some other high quality microphone? How does it sound? Some recent studies made of recording interviews showed that lower quality sound made the speaker seem less attractive, intelligent, or convincing, regardless of the content. This lends official credence to the ongoing suggestions that getting a better microphone, testing it out with a close friend, and learning how to use it will have a better impact on your job. This goes even beyond the idea of remote work, as so many of us engage in online meetings, even in the office. We can expect to see many microphone companies leveraging this right away.

A new study shows that the quality of a person’s microphone in a video meeting affects how the speaker is perceived by others.
