Google is moving on from some of their older products, but has worked with other companies for replacements. 10 years ago, the Nest Protect Product was released, and 7 years ago, the Nest Yale Lock. For the first, they went to one of the leaders in smoke detectors, First Alert. This was a smart move, but the lock was even better. Yale, one of the finer lock companies out there, was already cross branded, but now the Yale Smart Lock with Matter has been returned to the original namesake. Since it comes with Matter, it also brings it under the new standard which makes it cross-compatible with Alexa and Apple Home as well, allowing freedom to change ecosystems if you like.
Say goodbye to the Nest Protect and Nest x Yale Lock, with Google discontinuing those products and teeing up third-party replacements.
