The Apple Card relationship with Goldman Sachs has been sour for a while. A while back, both announced they were looking to dissolve the partnership. This week, news came out that Visa and Amex are both jumping into the mix, and Mastercard, who provides the payment card services to Goldman Sachs, is hoping to keep the business, perhaps through a different front-end representative. Visa’s offer of $100 million upfront is nothing to sneeze at, but pales in comparison to the $20 billion in balances that they would gain from taking over the business. We’ve known this would be coming, and it’s interesting to see who will win.
