This past week, I went on YouTube, and was puzzled by the much larger thumbnails, as were many others. Apparently, they started testing this, and people aren’t happy, and I’m not a fan either. They, like many companies, are tinkering with ways to drive more engagement, views, and adhesion to their website. There’s no options to tweak, believe me, I tried, and I’m pondering the route of many of the add-ons that are available to customize your experience. The problem with that approach is that we shouldn’t have to rely upon third-parties to give us what we want. I’m hoping that YouTube backs off this approach, or better yet, empowers us all to customize and control to our own delight. I’m not, however, holding my breath.
The latest YouTube UI test involves huge thumbnails that only fit two or three on a row. The internet reacted exactly how you’d expect.
