Zelle is shutting down their app, and it may seem odd, but it’s not as bad as one might think. Originally envisioned as a competitor to Venmo and many of the other person-to-person items, it actually only had about 2% of their transactions happening on the app. Most of the transfers amongst their 151 million users were happening elsewhere. This isn’t really a surprise, as they announced it a while back, but it does mean that things are changing. Zelle has had a rough ride, with many problems with scammers leveraging it, and a lack of keeping pace with their competitors, but it doesn’t seem like it’s going away… just the app itself, in a world that is filled with apps.
