On Monday, this week, over 200 CEOs signed onto a letter that urges state leaders to require AI and computer science classes as a high-school graduation requirement. I like this idea in general, having taken a computer class when I was in high-school many years ago. A Commodore Pet, creating programs in BASIC, was a foundational experience to my many years in the IT field since. I push against this, however, as most of the learning that I received back then has little to do with where we got to. When AI is a field that has been around for only a couple of years, I’m sure that even most computer science teachers are not up to speed enough for teaching this. Still familiarity now may help in the coming years…
