Ticketmaster announced this week that they are “all in” on up-front pricing. They pushed the idea of “putting fans first” and including fees in the ticket prices immediately, instead of buried. Great news. Exciting. What they didn’t note on that announcement; the Federal Trade Commission announced this last December, and Ticketmaster only complied on the last day. This rule also applies to live event ticketing, and the short-term lodging industry, both realms which have abused the idea of $5 products that have $50 in add-on fees… yes, I’m exaggerating a bit, but it still doesn’t sooth the sting of many past surprises of padded bills.

Good news: Hotel and concert apps and websites can no longer display misleading prices upfront, with hidden fees revealed only when you go to checkout. As of this week, the practice is illegal in the US.
