Imagine that you’re an employee in the US Patent and Trademark Office, and you’re asked about the term Robotaxi. Do you say yes, this is a unique name? Or do you deny Tesla that trademark because it’s far to generic and has been used in science fiction since the 1950’s (1953, I found)? So, the Patent office denied this request, and is struggling with other names. The idea is clearly so very generic, which makes me wonder if the folks at Tesla were hoping for some kind of oblivious government agent, to power through, perhaps throw a curveball into the mix. They’ve got other names floated forward, from Robobus to Cybercab, so somewhere along the way, we may see a new name.
