The Texas Senate passed a bill last week that would require that all renewable power projects, even existing ones, buy backup power from coal and gas plants. They must match the output from daytime to fill needs night under this idea. I’m not sure who came up with this idea, but it’s clearly not scientists. Demand at night is lower. Solar power is non-existent. Winds are unpredictable. New power plants from solar and wind can be put up in half the time as traditional. Now, I’m not sold on green energy, but this doesn’t give it a chance to prove itself either way. To me this is like mandating two engines in everyone’s car, even though you can only use one.
