Something that has been a long time in coming. Etsy is starting to crack down on 3D printing of other people’s designs. Let’s be clear, there are many people who make their own designs, but there are others that are only making money on the idea of the work of the 3D printing itself. I applaud the protection of intellectual property. The idea that people are selling things that are built off designs that are publicly available, and passing themselves off as original creations is something nobody should be doing. It’s like selling a song, pretending that I made it, when it is clearly a Beatles song. There are some gray areas in this, as others are making minor changes to bypass this, so we’ll see some changes along the way.
Etsy has clarified some of its policies, and from the way they now read, you might not be able to sell your 3D-printed dragons anymore.
