In the mid-90’s, I got one of the best sound cards available. The Creative Labs Sound Blaster AWE32 card was more than others, but it also had a level of recognition in a field where everyone was an also-ran. Most people have moved on in the last 25 years since the last bug report. Still, it became an oddity this last week, when it was announced that there are new patches in the Linux kernel for this 30 year old sound card. The card itself hasn’t had a motherboard that it could work in in some 20 years, but Linux lovers still run some old hardware. It’s a contrast after the last two weeks where I’ve referenced Windows 11 struggles with forcing people to purchase hardware to replace 5 year old computers. Am I running Linux? No, but I’m thinking of doing a load on one of my spare computers here in my lab space.
Creative Sound Blaster AWE32 fixes arrive for the Linux 6.16-rc3 kernel.
