Walmart has a new store concept that you won’t see, but you’ll still experience. Across the country, Amazon created fulfillment centers, to ensure delivery of some products to your doorstep in a matter of hours. Walmart is duplicating this concept in Dallas, Texas, and Bentonville, Arkansas. These so-called “dark stores” will carry many of the products, but in a way that will deliver products faster than in a live store environment where customers and workers share the same space. You can expect that there will be some automation over the long haul, but less shopper friendly shelving, and other changes may take this concept to a new level.
