The idea of hackers has enveloped our minds, but we rarely think of what hacking really is. In my mind, I recognize that many think of the neer-do-wells, who will throw out viruses and malware, who hack into places they shouldn’t go. This example should explain more of my thoughts. Some braniac out there has hacked an Anker Prime Charger, which has a small little 2 1/4″ screen and a dial knob, so that it can load and play the original video game of Doom. Apparently this little charger has a 150mhz CPU, more than twice what anyone had playing Doom back in 1993. Most people wouldn’t do this, but hackers have been performing this trick with Doom on all manner of hardware for decades now.
‘Anker Doom’ runs pretty smoothly on the small color screen, using the click dial to navigate the claustrophobic corridors and slay demons.
