Earlier this year, the UK setup requirements for Apple to create backdoor access to user data. Our own US government apparently responded and pressured the UK to back down, citing concerns about the “protected encrypted data of American citizens”. Holding their ground, Apple has noted that they have never built a backdoor or master key and never will. They did disable an Advanced Datga Protection feature in the UK, and it’ll be interesting to see how fast that will be reenabled. For the concerns of freedom and privacy of all people, I hope that this will be turned back on, and that we won’t have to deal with this again. I also realize that with the idea of any government involvement, there’s a good chance that this isn’t the last we will hear of this.
