After recent sad events drew attention to some ChatGPT handling of sensitive topics, OpenAI has announced a new effort. Their current plans are to develop an age-prediction system, as well as looking into age verification to restrict answers. They do acknowledge that this is a big undertaking, and hence, may not be fully successful. Yes, the idea of us providing our government ID is a concern, but it seems to be balanced with the limitation of information if we don’t. Clearly, this is an early announcement, and merely the beginning of the move in a new direction, so we’ll see what happens over the long haul.
