We are getting closer to smart glasses that I’d be interested in. I’m a nerd, and I wear glasses, even nerdy ones. Meta has announced their new Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses which will be coming by the end of the month, and they are nerdy. But the tech is coming, with a pop-up display on one of the lenses, the ability to take videos, provide live captions to in-person discussions, and more. The downsides are the battery life at 6 hours, which isn’t thrilling, as well as the fact that Mark Zuckerberg’s demo failed on stage, with multiple missed video calls, and also via a remote demonstration on how to whip up a BBQ sauce. It seems like it’s not ready quite yet, even at $800 a pop before accessories, lenses, and so forth.
The Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses start at $799 and come with an EMG wristband that allows effortless interactions. They will be available starting September 30 in the US.
