So you plunked down $1800-$3500 on a smart fridge.  You’d expect it to blend in, and be useful, right?  Would you expect it to start feeding you endless ads?  Samsung has just released a new software update that does exactly that on a series of their Family Hub fridges. This, just months after they said they had no plans regarding doing exactly that. I barely understand the Amazon Kindle approach, where if you want the ad-supported version, you pay less. This however, is not what I think any of us bargained for. The onslaught of advertising everywhere, without our permissions (OK, sure, buried in some EULA that we don’t get to read in advance), but at what point is this going too far?

Samsung’s “pilot program” is likely just the beginning.
