Our world is changing fast, but I didn’t expect it would move this quickly. In Ohio, there is a bill that’s been introduced that would stop AIs and robots from being wed to adults, or even be treated as persons. The fact that this is occurring, is an indication that people have started to think of these crazy things. Indeed, some crazy guy in Colorado did what I can only imagine is a non-legal marriage to a chatbot in a “digital ceremony”, which is all kinds of bizarre. I believe the Holy Bible was clear, and even if you don’t believe, it would seem that there are certain areas we shouldn’t be going. True love and happiness doesn’t come from a fake relationship, without the normal flaws and pitfalls, the challenges that make us grow as individuals, as humans. The author of the bill, Thaddeus Claggett, clearly is forward thinking, acting before this becomes another unthinkable further devolution of the sanctity of what it means to be human and alive.
Can a person really marry an AI? Ohio lawmakers don’t think so. A new bill aims to outlaw human-AI unions, calling AI “nonsentient entities.” It comes as more people form romantic bonds with chatbots, a phenomenon raising questions about loneliness, obsession, and where humanity draws the line in the age of artificial love.
