Perplexity is a newer AI company that has come out with their own AI web browser called Comet. Apparently, however, they’ve been creating consternation for Amazon in how they access Amazon’s own website. This has led to a lawsuit that accuses Perplexity of accessing customer accounts and disguising automated activity as human browsing. Amazon insists that the usage of this AI agent degrades the customer shopping experience, while Perplexity has been calling Amazon a bully, using legal threats and intimidation, while stifling innovation. Of course, wouldn’t you know it, Amazon is developing similar tools already, and they don’t want the competition. This is only the start of this particular journey and may take years to sort out.
