The Chinese manufacturer, DJI has been battling an issue regarding sale and lawful usage in the United States. A number of different government legal attacks are serving up concern for them, and we’ve talked about the FAA, and their concern in the past. The FCC has now jumped on this list, and they have changed some requirements, and can now retroactively ban items that could be a security risk. This comes under the category of “radio frequency devices”, and if the FCC wishes to, they could ban not only future sale, but even downright ban all of DJI’s drones due to this issue. DJI now has to fill out new paperwork to prevent being added to a ban list, but this seems to be more hurdles. Note that DJI occupies about 80% of the market, and their absence would leave few options.
