I’ve resisted the Electric Vehicle world for a while, and while it excites me that Jeep is finally coming up with a new one, I’m still not sold. Sure, it’ll be the first and only fully electric Trail Rated SUV in the industry, but that’s a moniker only used by Jeep. There have been hybrid models in the Grand Cherokee and Wrangler, but they’ve also been plagued by concerns and recalls. So this already raises concerns, but what bugs me most is the idea of being out in the wilderness, enjoying a day climbing up mountains, and then realizing that I have run out of juice. Jeeps and other off-roaders have been known to carry Jerry cans, 5 gallons of go juice, aka gasoline, in case they get into trouble. What’s the EV equivalent of this? A friend with a gas 4×4, a big hefty generator, lots of gas, and tons of time to charge you up to get home.
We’ve got the final specs and launch price for the Jeep Recon EV.
