Perhaps the most telling item of the week, about where we have gone, and where we are going, is in the form of a movie trailer. Disney’s Toy Story series, has been about the travel from innocence into later stages in life, but never has it been with something so abrupt and concerning as the idea of introducing tech to a young child. The 2 minute teaser trailer is mostly revolving around the horror of a new package that serves to threaten the imaginary world of toys that come to life when nobody can see. In this case, the package includes a digital tablet, which is something far too many children are embracing, while abandoning the paths that build healthy minds through imagination and exploration. I don’t know if I should consider it deeply funny and self-aware, or profoundly sad.
In a new teaser trailer for Toy Story 5, Buzz, Woody and the rest of the gang face what may be their ultimate enemy in the war for a child’s play time: electronics.
