I’m not sure what to make of Microsoft with their approach to Windows 11. The latest build of the semi-annual Windows 11 update has been released to the Insiders Channel, version 26H1. The problem is that it’s not for any of us, but only for people who are running specific silicon, a buzzword for special high-end next-generation chips that the public doesn’t use. The next major release is officially slated as 26H2, which won’t be coming until the second half of next year. There are many questions in my head, but first and foremost is what’s coming next in the chip world. This also means that the last significant feature update was 24H2, and it’ll be 2 years between meaningful feature updates. Sure, 25H2 had some bug fixes and performance overhauls, but is the Microsoft imagination team failing us?
The next version of Windows 11 is version 26H1, but Microsoft says it won’t be released as an update to version 25H2.
