OpenAI is getting a $1 Billion boost from Disney, specifically for Sora (the video generation platform) and ChatGPT images. Along with this comes an announcement of Disney allowing 200 of their famous characters to be alongside of you in the imagery. Yes, that’s right… the idea of you hanging out in the Star Wars Universe alongside of your favorite droids, or being placed alongside of Mickey Mouse in Disneyland without having to travel there, are distinct possibilities. What is also included, also is a bit of Disney control to ensure that content doesn’t run afoul of Disney standards. This may change how we view the usage of AI by Disney in various media, and adjust how much we tolerate it on the small or even big screen. It will also be an interesting exercise in how content is created with AI, and could lead to other similar decisions by other intellectual property owners, as they seek to also enter into the fanbase that uses AI.
Agreement marks a significant step in setting meaningful standards for responsible AI in entertainment.
