DuckDuckGo is a great search engine, along with other products, and it counters the concerns about Google by being privacy focused. One really telling item about the users of DuckDuckGo, but even about AI, came out this last week. They ran a poll, and OK, yes, it’s a poll… but the numbers showed that 90% of respondents did not want AI integrated into their searches. Along with this, and perhaps this is part of a marketing ploy, they also grant you the ability to turn off AI assisted answers and AI generated images. You can go directly to noai.duckduckgo.com as an alternative. I’m intrigued by the numbers, the process, the behind the scenes, but then again, from folks that I’ve talked to, the luster and gleam of AI is starting to dull, and people are figuring AI is not as exciting for all of us, as it is for those who are investing in it… which doesn’t sound good.
In a recent DuckDuckGo poll, nine out of tenresponders said they don’t want “AI” features.
