Jack Dorsey, who co-founded Twitter, is at the top of a big company called Block, that owns two smaller names you might recognize. The first is Square, which you may recognize as the app and hardware at many small restaurants and cafes. The other is Cash App, a spin-off that used to be Square Cash. So now that you’re up to date there… Block just made a big layoff announcement of 4,000 of their 10,000 employees. This is all still in the works, but they have developed their own AI agent that they say will be at the core of how they will continue to work and be successful. This may be an oddity as other companies have been saying that they haven’t seen any true gains directly attributable to AI.
Block is the latest business to announce layoffs, opting to cut jobs in favor of using more AI tools.
