Space, the final frontier… for smartphones? The Apple iPhone is about to head to space aboard the Artemis II moon mission coming next month. This isn’t the first, but it’ll be the farthest the tech will have gone yet. There’s a long whole story about how they are currently using 10 year old Nikon DSLRs, but the quick point and shoot of an iPhone is better. There’s more about the fact that it’s not the first iPhones in space, but apparently those previous ones were never used. This time around, the iPhones will see some distinct usage, and I suppose we might see some selfies from space. Let’s be clear though… there’s no cell service there, and even if it was, that’s a hefty long distance bill. This was fast tracked as part of the series of firsts and greatests (if that’s a word), and perhaps we’ll learn far more about this side tech trip after the fact.
