So, we’ve all seen people lose their jobs after something one of their co-workers did. What are we to make of the next layer of AI, where we can lose our jobs over something AI did? That situation has already happened publicly, as a tech in India lost his job after AI-generated code caused a production stoppage. This becomes a bigger issue as coders, and other users of AI are being told to leverage AI to work for them, to take over and do some of the lifting, and yet AI is prone to not only errors but also what we call hallucinations, where the drift occurs from reality. Sure, we are told to double-check the work, but when time constraints encroach in, and the productivity requirements are raised, disaster can soon follow. The future of the workplace may get quite scary as we may never even know what went wrong.
