As much as AI may be sending fear through everyone regarding their jobs, the latest news is that large corporations may be blaming AI for layoffs, while trimming overhead. This of course is an age old trick to drive stocks higher, with a new benefit of broadcasting the idea that the company is further ahead with AI than their competitors. The latest from Nvideo VP of applied deep learning, Brian Catanzaro, is that the cost of compute is higher than that of humans. I’m going to double-down and advise again that the idea of learning AI now is highly important. Those that know how to gain real value out of AI will be the winners, just as those who knew how to develop websites 20 years ago.
It’s easy to point and laugh, but the picture might be more nuanced than it seems.
