The latest from Amazon’s terms of service are to add new arbitration clauses, along with language which prevents class-action lawsuits. They do claim that this is a net-positive for customers, as they’ll pick up “most of the cost” for arbitration, but it does set a framework that will likely shut down a portion of their ongoing liability. Most of us don’t have the resources to figure out arbitration if Amazon does us wrong. Most of us don’t even know how many people are finding problems with various practices. There’s also a process towards these dispute claims that may be burdensome for many folks. This is no different, though, than most companies that try to lock you into approaches that favor the defendant.
If you have a dispute with the e-commerce giant, you’ll have to hash it out through an individual claim with a third-party arbitrator.
