We’ve been talking about the RAM crisis for a while, with no end in sight. There’s a ton of demand for RAM for AI systems, and some companies offering new 8GB models to bring the price down. Still, Acer’s CEO said this week that he hopes that PC prices will drop in the middle of 2027. The problem is that he represents the middle of the chain, not the manufacturing level, which already has stated that chip production is all but tied up through 2027. The only hope is that the laptop and desktop manufacturers are considering other ways to trim the costs, as the expectations are a 5% to 20% PC bump in price in the next quarter. Given that my $2000 Alienware laptop now tips the scales at $5849, I’m dumbfounded as to why Acer’s CEO thinks things are gonna be fine.
