The latest hack news includes a group called ShinyHunters, typically known for major attacks and extortion. This time, their attack was none other than the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the demands are to take down a report claimed to have false allegations. The hackers claim to have info on every current agent and many applicants, and released info on 5000 of these agents as a proof of capture. They also claim to have terabytes of additional data from inside the FBI. Along the way, they also hacked the job site, vandalizing it as another level of proof of their misdeeds. Going back to the claims of false allegations, nothing says we aren’t bad guys quite like hacking a government website.

The theft of agents’ personal information could present a major counterintelligence threat, where agents and their families are extorted into cooperating with a foreign government.
